Key Requirements & Details
- Who Needs It: Nonimmigrant aliens (individuals who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents) entering the U.S. temporarily for business, pleasure, or study.
- Supporting Documentation: Applicants must provide evidence of an exception to the general federal prohibition on firearm possession by nonimmigrant aliens. This typically includes:
- A valid U.S. state hunting license or permit (from any state).
- An official invitation or registration for a competitive target shooting event or sports/hunting trade show.
- Validity: Once approved, the permit is valid for one year from the date of approval. During this year, it can be used for multiple entries into the U.S.
- Processing Time: It typically takes 4 to 6 weeks for the ATF Firearms and Explosives Imports Branch (FEIB) to process the application.
Approval of import license may take up to 8 weeks.
Disclaimer:
- Client must be legally allowed to own or posseses a fiream in the US.
- ATF Form 4473 will be filed and must be approved prior to transfering the firearm to client once firearm has been imported.
